The Story Behind The Paradox
As a young boy, I was fascinated by the impossible worlds of M.C. Escher
His drawings seemed to challenge logic itself. Staircases climbed endlessly. Paths travelled in impossible directions. The more you looked, the more questions they asked.
Those images stayed with me.
Years later, while designing end grain boards, i found myself exploring similar ideas through timber, geometry and craftsmanship. Not to recreate Escher's work, but to capture the same sense of curiosity, movement and discovery.
The result became the Paradox board.
A paradox is something that appears contradictory at first glance yet reveals a deeper truth when viewed more closely.
The pathways within the design seem to rise and fall at the same time. They intersect, diverge and reconnect, drawing the eye on a journey without a clear beginning or end, every viewer discovers something different hidden within the pattern.
For me, The Paradox board reflects life itself.
Our paths are rarely straight. We experience success and setback, certainty and doubt, progress and detours. yet these apparent contradictions are not obstacles to the journey- they are the journey.
What first appears confusing often reveals purpose. What feels like a setback can become an opportunity, What seems impossible can become reality.
That is the Paradox of life.
The Paradox board is more than a study in geometry. It is a reflection of the journeys we travel, the challenges we overcome, and the inspiration we carry with us throughout life
